2020 Volkswagen Tiguan vs 2020 Volkswagen Atlas

Serving Troy, MI

Volkswagen vehicles have a solid and well-deserved reputation for reliability, style, and excellent performance. With this in mind, it makes sense that drivers in and near Troy would be focused on the Volkswagen line when searching for a new SUV. The 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan is a second-generation compact crossover SUV that offers two rows of seating and an extensive range of desired features. The 2020 Atlas sits above the Tiguan in the Volkswagen lineup. It is a midsize crossover SUV that has three rows of seats. Suburban Volkswagen of Troy is the trusted auto dealership that you can count on for support as you compare these models and make your SUV purchase.

The Tiguan and Atlas are both capable of meeting your needs for quick acceleration, robust power, and overall agile performance, but they tackle this in different ways. The Tiguan is offered with one powertrain, and this is a 2.0-liter TSI engine that delivers 184 horsepower. It comes with Tiptronic 8-speed auto transmission with a sport mode and four other driving modes. The 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system is standard. In comparison, the Atlas is available with two powertrain options. One of these is a 2.0-liter turbo engine that puts off 235 horsepower. The upgraded powertrain is a 3.6-liter, V6 engine that offers 276 horsepower. These powertrains come with the same mechanical features as you will find in the Tiguan, and they also have Active Control, which is managed through a rotary knob.

The Atlas is a larger vehicle than the Tiguan, but these two SUVs share numerous familial characteristics. For example, the front end of these SUVs are defined by a large, horizontal-trending grille with a dual-bar design. This grille is integrated with the LED headlights on both vehicles. However, the grille and headlights on the Atlas are larger. The Tiguan also has an in-depth definition across the hood with a single character line down the sides and modified roof rails. The Atlas has substantial definition across the hood, and the front fenders are larger and more defined. Also, the roof rails are raised.

As a higher-end SUV, the Atlas has many additional features included as standard items across all trims than the Tiguan offers. However, they both have a similar dashboard design and common standard or optional features. For example, the center stack is topped with a large display screen that gives you access to the navigation system, the smartphone integration apps, the sound system, and other items. This sits above the climate control features with rotary knobs and the controls for the heated front seats. Mounted steering wheel controls, a digital instrumentation screen, a sunroof, front power seats, and other items are also found across these two SUVs depending on the trim that you prefer.
